Classroom Happenings 4/9 -4/13

Welcome Back! I hope you all had a relaxing break and are ready to take on the final nine weeks of school. Please keep appointments for your child to a minimum this month. We will be taking the M-Step on April 24 and 26 and will be busy learning all we need to know to be successful on the test prior to that.

MathPlease have your child continue to practice facts on Mobymax every day for 5 minutes. Homework in the paper form will still come home on Tuesday and Thursday. We will begin Unit 7 (Fractions) this week. We will start by just understanding that a fraction is part of a whole and then move on to fraction chains, equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Certainly, a lot to take in for these kiddos. Any help you can give at home with homework would be appreciated.

Writing:  We will begin our research writing unit this week. The kids will be choosing one of the biographies we have been reading, taking notes on the person’s childhood, young adult, and later years and then be writing their own biography of that person.

Spelling: Unit 29  includes long O and short O words spelled like the following:

coin, toy,  now,  pound. You can find your child’s word list on Spelling City:

Social Studies: Our last unit will involve learning the Core Democratic Values to use when trying to support our opinions on public issues.

Science: The kids will be learning about animal classification, the four Bs and animal adaptations.

Reading: We will also use this time for researching the biographies the kids have chosen.

Have the Best Week Ever,

Mrs. Flory
