Classroom Happenings 2/11/19

Will this be our first full week in three weeks? We can only hope. We still have much to learn so getting back to work is a must.

Math: We are back into unit 4. So far the most difficult part is rounding to the nearest 10 or 100. We will be working on adding and subtracting three digit numbers with carrying and borrowing. They will learn a variety of methods to solve these problems, but will be encouraged to use whichever method makes sense for them.

Writing: We will be finishing up our realistic fiction stories this week and beginning to revise, edit, and type them for our published copies.

Spelling: Your child should have brought home the Unit 15 words on Friday. This week’s focus is on the consonant blends (ng, nk, nt, pt,sk,st) Below is the Unit 15 list of words.  Social Studies: We’ve completed learning about the first people of Michigan, Native Americans. Next the French come to Michigan. We will be learning why they came and what caused them to stay.

Reading: The kids are still reading the second book in a series, but with all of the days off, it has been hard to get them going and caught up. We will read as much as we can this week, but if your child is not finished by Friday they will be bringing their book home to finish over the weekend so we can start our biography unit.

Valentines Day Party: We made Valentine bags so all the kids will need is Valentines for their friends. I have some Valentine math games planned and made some Valentine cookies for a treat.
